What is Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana?
PMJDY is the Government of India's National Mission for Financial Inclusion. It aims to provide eligible unbanked individuals with access to basic banking, savings, remittance, credit, insurance and pension services.

Eligibility
Who Can Open a PMJDY Account?
- Primarily intended for unbanked individuals
- Accounts can be opened through participating bank branches
- Bank Mitras or Business Correspondent outlets may also offer access
- Eligibility and KYC depend on applicable banking regulations
- Existing account holders should confirm eligibility with their bank
KYC
Documents Required
- Aadhaar, where available
- Voter ID, Driving Licence or Passport, where accepted
- PAN card or other officially valid document
- MNREGA Job Card, where applicable
- Other KYC information required by the bank

Banking Benefits
Zero minimum balance
A PMJDY account can generally be maintained without a minimum balance requirement. Deposits may earn interest according to applicable banking rules.
RuPay debit card
Eligible account holders can receive a RuPay debit card. Applicable cards may also carry accident insurance subject to the relevant conditions.
Additional Benefits
Overdraft & Direct Benefit Transfer
Overdraft
Up to ₹10,000
Eligible account holders may access an overdraft subject to satisfactory account operation, bank assessment and applicable conditions.
DBT
Direct Government Benefits
Eligible subsidies, welfare payments, pensions and other government benefits can be credited directly to the account.
Insurance
RuPay Accident Insurance
Eligible RuPay card holders may receive accident insurance coverage. The applicable cover can be ₹1 lakh or ₹2 lakh depending on the account/card eligibility and applicable insurance programme terms.
Coverage, eligibility and claim conditions should be verified with the respective bank or card issuer.

Opening a PMJDY account does not automatically enrol the account holder in these schemes. Each scheme has separate eligibility and enrolment requirements.

Banks & Bank Mitras
A PMJDY account can generally be opened through participating banks, Regional Rural Banks and authorised Business Correspondent or Bank Mitra outlets.

- PMJDY is primarily intended for unbanked individuals
- There is no minimum balance requirement
- Overdraft up to ₹10,000 is subject to eligibility and bank approval
- RuPay accident insurance is subject to applicable conditions
- PMJJBY and PMSBY are separate schemes with separate enrolment requirements
- Keep your KYC, mobile, nominee and account details updated
- Never share your ATM PIN, OTP or banking credentials
